Whole Foods Market presents Fast and Easy Vegetarian Cooking

Join us at the Whole Foods in University Heights on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:00pm to learn about heart healthy meals for WISE working women! Come and enjoy several vegetarian dishes. Learn how to prepare them and leave with at least three great recipes. We’ll show you some new ingredients that infuse flavor without fat and show you how going meatless is easy and delicious! There will be a chef and healthy eating specialist leading the demonstration.

WISE Cleveland Annual Golf Outing

The 9th Annual WISE Cleveland Golf Outing date has been set for Wednesday, July 20 at the Cleveland Metroparks Washington Golf Learning Center. ALL ARE WELCOME!

Non-Golfers and Beginners – This is your chance to learn about the game of golf and play on a short course designed for you!

Seasoned Golfers – See if you can beat this par 29, 9-hole course, good practice for your short game! Members and Non-Members Welcome — Bring family, friends, co-workers, interns, students, or anyone who might enjoy playing golf and socializing!

Hole Sponsorships available for $25 each! As a Hole Sponsor your company’s name/logo will be used as a hole marker.

Donations for raffle prizes or gift bags are also welcome!

WISE Cleveland Awards Annual Scholarships!

Congratulations to Rebecca Griemser of Chesterland and Suzanne Lavelle of Lakewood for being selected to receive a 2011 WISE Cleveland Scholarship! Rebecca will graduate from Laurel School this year and plans to study Sports Management in college. Suzanne is a student at the University of Michigan studying Sports Management. Both women came highly recommended and are actively involved in sports and in their communities. Congratulations and good luck, Rebecca and Suzanne!

Our February event was a “run-way” success thanks to Nordstrom, Maggiano’s and our special guest Valerie Mayen. Close to 60 WISE Women came to a private event in the Nordstrom offices to learn how to shop smart using Nordstrom’s personal shopper services and to hear from Project Runway contestant Valerie Mayen. Valerie was not the winner of that season’s show but she is a winner in our book. She now has a company called Yellow Cake, and she is helping other aspiring designers in Cleveland to reach their dreams and goals. We also enjoyed dinner from Maggiano’s and “mocktails” from Budapest Blonde, a local company begun by Illona Simon! We thank the programming committee for their hard work putting this one together! WISE Member Katie Spotz Named Glamour Magazine Women of the Year: Adventure

When Katie Spotz launched her boat off the coast of Senegal, West Africa, the open seas seemed welcoming. It was January 3, 2010, and she had more than 2,500 miles ahead in her attempt to become the youngest person to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean and raise awareness for her cause: clean drinking water. Three weeks in, dolphins surrounded her boat, chirping happily as she petted their rubbery skin.
